The VWS Online Academy forms part of a knowledge management training solution to meet the immediate, ongoing, and future training needs of VWS volunteers.

Online Courses

Modules focus on developing and enhancing the ongoing learning experience for VWS volunteers. The content is available 24/7 to go through in your own time however there are targets which must be met and assessments to complete in order to progress through the training season.

Scenarios, Hikes, Skills

The virtual learning (online courses, lectures, assessments) take place in conjunction with in-person training experiences. Both aspects form part of the training requirements and the Basic Wildfire Suppression course requires successful completion of online modules, hikes, scenarios, and skills. The annual fitness evaluation and any administrative requirements must also be met.

Preparedness

The goal of the VWS knowledge management system is to provide a comprehensive and well-rounded training experience which addresses volunteers training and development needs. The VWS approach to knowledge development encourages volunteers to be part of an organisational culture which embraces and celebrates ongoing learning. Being prepared for the challenges of wildfires and learning from experiences is a necessity.
